Meadgate Primary School
Meadgate Primary School is a 1 form entry school situated in Essex. We are proud to be part of the Eveleigh Link Academy Trust and benefit from working in partnership with other schools. Our school successfully embeds computing into the curriculum with keen pupils and staff, who rarely shy away from new technologies, but embrace the possibilities together.
Use of My Learning:
We were initially looking for a platform that would be easily accessible for staff, but engaging for pupils. Teacher’s time is precious and something intuitive was vital, especially as this was to be a totally new adventure for staff. We wanted something that would grow with us, and would offer us a variety of ways of working. We hoped to develop some aspects of digital literacy, provide safe social media alternatives for pupils, allow staff easy access to their documents from anywhere and offer further opportunities to engage children in their learning. My Learning was already familiar to our Deputy Headteacher. It ticked many of the boxes and after a couple of training sessions staff were quickly up and running. The support provided by the company is very good, with queries and questions answered promptly in friendly, clear, easy to follow terms, essential for a really busy teacher! The administration is minimal and simple, with very little required once the system is set up. The platform offers our school a number of tools which encourage our students to understand elements of the online world and how to use them safely.
The ability to practically follow up e-safety sessions using the VLE as a safe playground for learning about netiquette, personal and private information and digital footprint is a valuable tool in our school. We really like the easy file storage and transfer between personal and shared areas – we use this for personal and staff documents, class information, assembly themes and music, clubs and SEN support documents.
We love the school blog, which keeps everyone up to date with school events and allows us to share great work through the whole community. Teachers can post and many have a growing number of pupils leaving comments and feedback. We have recently started a school council blog, which is used to help keep the rest of the school up to date with their plans. It is also a great way for them to collect feedback from the other children.
The website builder allows us to design and build websites on any number of topics. Our first attempt was a school virtual gallery where everyone can share the fantastic art work being produced throughout the school. Since then children have presented school journey information in website format and we are considering using the website builder to start a D/T gallery and possibly a virtual club!
